 "I am the mother of a beautiful six year old little girl with a whole host of developmental delays.  One of the delays my daughter has is apraxia (a major speech delay).  My daughter did not begin speaking even single words until she was past 30 months old.  We owe a large portion of her speaking to the use of basic sign language.  While learning basic sounds and early communication skills, sign language helped tremendously to reduce frustration.  Thanks to the help of our Speech and Language partners, I am proud to say that my daughter has made great progress and her communication continues to improve and I am so proud of her".  "Amanda came into my home to help my daughter, Macayla, who has Down syndrome, with some developmental issues.  What Amanda did was provide a key that completely unlocked so much potential in my little girl that she has blown away many professionals in the ability of a toddler to sign and communicate.  Amanda let us borrow several types of signing videos and turned us on to this form of early communication with our speech delayed daughter.  The one that really engaged our daughter, and older son, was Sighning Time!.  My daughter begged and demanded to watch it! She began signing right away and was well over 200 signs by 3 years old, and that placed her at or above her typical peers in communication!!  Signing has opened her world!!  She exploded with communication and blossomed in personality-she thinks she is so funny and tries to make people laugh!!  She was no longer frustrated and screaming to be heard or bettter yet, understood!!  She uses sign to help her speak words.  She signs and imitates sounds and words she is learning or struggling with.  She has come so far now, that when she attempts new words, stangers can understand her speech!!  She learned the sign for volleyball today because my niece was playing in town at a tournament.  We watched the video piece twice and practiced it a couple of times before we left.  When we got to the tournament, I was showing off that MaCayla knew the sign for volleyball for her cousin, when MaCayla said "volleyball" (for the first time) and everyone understood her speech!!  She is 3 1/2 years old!!  Signing has helped her so much in not just communicating to her family her wants and needs, but for opening her world for communicating with those outside the family, through signing, and also accelerating her delayed speech!  Amanda made signing fun and engaging for MaCayla at each visit and really chose signs that pertained to my daughter's age, interests, learning objectives, and MaCayla's own sense of humor!  Amanda went above and beyond to learn more signs to challenge MaCayla and progress her development for communication!"  Cathy Smith-proud mom of Macayla
